Manager, Compensation, Pension and Benefits

Location:  North Bay, Ontario

GreenFirst is looking for a bilingual and innovative HR leader to manage the compensation, pension and benefit programs for a growing organization with a passion for people. With staff dispersed across operational locations in Ontario and Quebec, the Manager, Compensation, Pension and Benefits will integrate all programs related to total rewards.

Reporting directly to the Vice President, HR  you will:

  • Responsible for the administration of all forms of employee compensation.
  • Provide direct support, analysis and insight on:
    • Salary administration (salary grids and pay bands)
    • Short term incentive plans (STIP)
    • Long term incentive plans (LTIP)
    • Recognition programs
    • Pension plans and registered retirement plans
    • Benefit plans
    • Canada statutory and provincial healthcare, extended health plans,
  • Monitor, interpret, evaluate and educate internally on plan trends, prevailing practices, financial implications or advantages through detailed plan analysis.
  • Manage vendor relationships and make recommendations associated with healthcare, benefits and retirement plans.
  • Conduct a salary administration review to ensure that all current and new roles are appropriately graded and compensated.
  • Analyze existing and proposed programs, policies and practices to ensure they are compliance, competitive and cost effective while aligning with company philosophy and supporting strategic objectives.
  • Maintain a database of compensation surveys and complete survey participation data submissions to survey providers on an annual basis.
  • Support day-to-day compensation activities including the production of compensation communications.
  • Maintain and update all plan documents and summary plan descriptions.
  • Ensure internal equity of position and recommends grade and salary changes where necessary.

You will need:

A degree in HR or 10+ years of equivalent work experience.  Certification in HR Studies and a designation (CHRL OR CHRE) from the Human Resources Professionals Association would be considered an asset.  Hands-on experience in consolidating benefit programs, pension plans and harmonizing salary administration practices in a unionized environment.

Excellent knowledge of compensation, salary administration, benefits, payroll, pensions, and pay-equity. Excellent communication skills in both French and English to provide information and direction to the organization.  Exceptional interpersonal skills to build strong relationships within and outside of the organization.
